It’s not an alien, it’s an animal. And I would guess horses wear shoes for the same reason you do - protect your feet from stepping on pointy things.

I know that saying, granted, I've only really heard it in my time living in America. The best example I can think of for what they have to do with each other is you can have close calls with hand grenades,while the game horseshoes seems to count when you get close enough to count.

It is the best i have, I have never played the game, but I have dodged a hand grenade before.

Hmm ... well, the part about hand grenades makes sense, I guess I just don't know enough about horseshoes to make that connection. Didn't really have a lot of countryside where I grew up.

Anyway, Nida's definitely wrong. It's absolutely a saying, even if it's a weird one.

Horse’s an animal. They wear metal shoes, and apparently it’s fun for people to play a game where they throw ‘em at a post and whoever gets closest wins. I still think it’s a stupid thing to say, comparing a game to explosives. For one thing, grenades are a lot more fun to throw around.
