magic question

say there's something that keeps someone alive in their world and if it doesn't exist, they don't

do you think it's possible to still exist in another world without it? like there's any chance that they just can

or does something have to keep them there on purpose

i get this is weird but i don't know a lot about magic

I know this guy who delves into alternate timelines. We work together sometimes. He gets around by creating these mirages of himself. Calls them 'reflections'. His reflections think independently but exist as long as he wants them to exist, and their will's in line with his.

He had this friend, though? Nice guy. One of those disgustingly nice guys you know's gonna get let down by the world. Always the noble type, remembers the name of everyone he meets. Worries he won't live up to what people expect. This guy died chasin' his reflections through alternate timelines.

So the first guy? Builds a whole big time machine to bring him back. I crunched the numbers for him so we knew it'd work. He couldn't do it on his own, he needed someone that could go in and anchor him to multiple universes and multiple timelines though. So the man got his friend back.

Point being I've seen that reality-universe-timeline anchor point nonsense work before.

Yeah, he did that.

Also he still had to ask for that help. He needed to man the sundail while he sent someone else in. It took two people.

Anchors are tricky, but once you got a good one established you don't got to worry none. Having an anchor problem now, Brother?

okay. this is the best i understand it

we have summoners and then something called the fayth. they're the souls of...people that help summoners create things. i think? there was a giant summon taking place that made an entire city and that's where i come from. the rest of the world didn't know about us and the fayth called us a dream

when the fayth woke up the city and the people disappeared

i ended up outside the dream and found out later what i was when the fayth told me. that was before they woke up

Have you found any references to this 'fayth' here?

I've got some experience in the residue souls leave. Sounds like a strange thing to know something about, but there are alien scholars that can teach you some things.

that kinda sense to me. don't know if it's the same but there's ruins where the things called pyreflies gather. they repeat the memories of the people who went through there

Well. That is sort of sticky. But I'm gonna suppose that if you're here, you had to be transported onto this plane and reconstructed. Atom by atom, chock full of whatever energy that passes as an equivalent of your old magic.

So as of now, I'm guessin' your anchored the same as the rest of us. But check in with a doctor to look at you under a microscope. Maybe a friend who can do some energy research. And if that ain't enough? I'll take a look too. I got a pretty useful scanning device.

Ask for any sorta blood test. Anything to get 'em to look at your blood and go, 'well those cells look normal'. That should at least cover you for physical presence.

Honestly, Brother, any place that pulls from so many realities and maintains powers has gotta have a hell of a convoluted sense of physics. Sounds like a fun thing to dig into once you get going.

if that's your thing, knock yourself out. i didn't know anything about magic or summoners until a few months before i showed up here so that stuff goes over my head.

maybe it's why the city's so weird. i haven't got a clue

City is weird for all of us, kid. Pretty sure you cram a buncha people in a melting pot like this and make them all get along? Bound to be strange, reality changing or not.

i mean more the different people...different energies kinda thing? you see buildings you know sometimes too right? it's gotta be something weird

i like the people part. i don't always get what's normal for other people but i never thought of life outside the city i grew up in. i never questioned it

now i'm reading someone telling me about someone jumping around time to save a friend
