He took a breath before smiling, trying to hide his teeth, which was useless as the fangs were visable as soon as he started speaking. ]

[there are a few things about tommy that people tend to miss. they think he doesn't pay attention, that he lacks an attention span, but they don't realize that his brain processes information so fast it only looks like he can't hold onto thoughts. he not only holds them - he moves through them faster than most people can think.

people also tend to think he doesn't have feelings, "team sociopath" and all, and that's an image tommy enthusiastically projects. it's easier to not have feelings, because then you don't get hurt. tommy can read the hurt in david's answer, and it's ... uncomfortable. so he does what he always does to counter genuine feelings - he cracks a joke.]
