I'm from Earth, 2011, not that the year really matters. I've met a few other people from Earth here but, oddly enough, none from my own Earth.

Kinda trippy, to be honest. [ Yeah, about as trippy as otherworlds and monsters and robotic overlords that kidnap people from various universes and shit. Jesus, what is their life? ]

So, you arrived here with friends? [ There's a soft, quiet hint of envy in her voice; her heart hurts. ] Any thoughts as to why?

Yeah, I was in another place before this. There is definitely a predilection for Earthers. Perhaps in many universes yours is the only planet with intelligent species? Can't be sure though.

I arrived here with siblings, friends, and my boyfriend. But we were captive. So I guess maybe we were already disconnected from our worlds and more easily taken.

[And Nida definitely counts as more disconnected, given how his world went through Time Compression.]

[ It's as good a theory as any, one she's inclined to get behind until she finds proof otherwise. ]

You guys were captive? [ Her voice is edged with curiosity, maybe even a layer of concern, but she seems to realize just how prying that could be; everyone's got demons in their past and she's not a fan of drudging up her own or those of others. ] If you don't mind me asking about it. It's cool if not.

Oh yeah. The worst part was the lack of hot water. I missed water heaters. I'm in love with them. And computers. Cars. Eating things other than stew.

[Ah, Nida has missed the simpler things in life. The not having to fight dopplegangers and the lack of fireflies that could make you feverish and moths that made you forget things. Yeah, he'll pass on the Village.]

Things like that were pretty common back there.

You must fucking love this place, then, huh? [ You know, save for the terrorists and vague reasoning as to their reason of being and AIs that are on some strange quest to do something she really doesn't care enough about to remember (because what it wants to do doesn't matter to her). ]

Well, it's a step up in the world. I don't know that I love it. I was promised New York City. But this will do.

[For now it would be enough.]

New York City? [ As if she's asking him really. ] Why would you want to go there?

My boyfriend is from... What did he call it...

[What were the words for it? How can you break cities down in understandable ways? Deling was one of the few back home that needed it, and they described districts by what was in them.]

I think he called it 'Manhattan'. I think that's a city inside a city? I don't know, Earth sounds weird.

[ Oh. If she had more of a romantic heart in her, she'd find that sweet. ]

Yeah, some of the larger cities on Earth kind of divide themselves up. I think it has to do with how large the populations usually are. NYC is huge, drove up there once to try the pizza. [ There's a little warmth now to her tone. ] The pizza alone is a good reason to give the city a visit, even if some of the people are dicks.

[Wait until she meets Billy. The guy is sweet enough to balance out even sour people.]

I've met terrible people before. But I've never had good pizza. Just passable. Curry, that's where it's at.

You ever make it to New York, you'll get good pizza. [ Though, she should warn him that he'll have to trudge through the less desirable places before he finds the perfect place. But, if his boyfriend is from New York, she doubts he'll have much trouble. ]

I've never had curry, actually. I can't really see it being better than a good slice of pie, though.

Oh, curry pie! Best thing ever.

[Apparently that's a thing where he's from, and Nida always adored it.]

So, if you're from Earth but not New York, where in the world there are you from?

[ She makes a noise at the mention of curry pie. That does not sound good, Nida, sorry. ]

Nowhere, really. [ Liar. ] My dad and I traveled a lot for his work so I spent a lot of time in a lot of cities but never one place for too long. Nothing exciting, honestly. Eventually, all American cities end up being the same unless they're one of the 'big ones'.

[ Only if you don't have a social life and exist solely at home, school, or the local mall. ] Is it like that where you come from?

[Of course it sounds good. Curry is good. Pie pastry is good. Clearly they go together well.],/small>

Sounds like a military kid to me. Am I right?

Oh boy, Hyne is a mess and a half. Sure you're ready for that mess?

Nah, nothing like that. We just didn't like to stay in one place for too long. [ Because they were on the run but details~ ]

And, to be fair, I bet most people's worlds are a mess. I know mine is. [ As much as she dislikes her current situation, she can't help but feel a tug of curiosity. Other worlds are fascinating, after all. ]

Earth is definitely a mess, every version of it. I once met a man named Leonardo, and he told me that sex between men was illegal. Can you imagine!?

[He had been offended on Leonardo Di Vinci's behalf.]

I can, mostly because that's still a thing in many places of the Earth I come from. [ If she knew the Leonardo he spoke of was Da Vinci, she'd fangirl. As it is, right now, she's mostly just disgusted with her world (though, to be fair, that's almost always her case). ]

I'm guessing your world works a little better in that regard?

Still a thing? Horrid. Billy said that at least it was legal for everyone to marry now, so at least there is that. My world doesn't have that much.

[And he knows that he got eyed a bit back then for not being straight. Whatever. Like he cared.]

My world still has a long way to go. [ And she doesn't believe it'll ever get better. Or maybe she's just pessimistic. ]

What's your world got? How's shit for people there?

Well, we wrapped up a pretty massive war a few years back, so things are sorta... Transitiony? Is that a word. Fuck it, it's a word.

But it isn't always easy. I've gotten side eye for displays of affection with other men.

Seems like people in all worlds are judgemental cunts.
