[Hank still wants to research into the missing people and initiate his vague plan to devalue the iterations. Right now the public see them as a protective force for good. Hank wants the people to see other fucking people as their reliable protective force. That in the many variations of temperaments and personalities and creative resolutions to conflict, they can find their safety.]
I have a case that could use some assistance from some specialized outsiders. If you could come to me and lay out your experience and training, I would like to offer you temporary deputy work in helping solve this case.
Necessary qualifications include:
-Combat against armed opponents
-Negotiation and Interrogation
-Ability to secure an area until CSI arrives (cursory crime scene analysis a bonus)
Due to Dualis's policy on providing payment through credit, if you would want rewards we would have to attach a name to your activities. However if you'd want to work off-record [which is as close to anonymously as he can get] we could come to some sort of arrangement such as donated payment.
I'll be at the cat cafe to conduct interviews 4:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon for the next week. You can show up when it's convenient to talk. Sounds like a fucking weird place for it, yes, it'll make more sense when you're there.
I've also arranged for donated goods to be offered when people come in and might find themselves in a state of disrepair or any nicer version of saying fucked the hell up. New clothes, medical things like crutches for people with chronic conditions, sanitary supplies like soap and toothbrushes, things of that nature. So if you want to donate something to the people coming in there's a donation box in the dormitory's lower entryway and they'll be taken to the temple.
Hank is pretty sure he'll be able to tell if someone is bullshitting their credentials and whether they'll do intentional harm with their new role. It's hard to do background checks when different universes are involved, but he thinks he's figured out a way to beat the system without having to use any of the department's lie detectors.
Note: Plotting post here.

[So far so good, though. People have really wanted to help.]

[Wanda brings herself and nothing else as she walks into the cafe that Hank had indicated. She isn't exactly on time but she's within the window and hopes to see someone here who matches the description that she'd gotten of Hank from the city's police department.
When she spots the ruffled man she approached cautiously, her eyebrow raised.]
Hank Anderson?
[Wanda has never met him before and is guessing that this is the man that she's looking for.]
no subject
[When she comes over, he stands up from the table and offers his hand to shake.]
That would be me. Are you Wanda?
[He thinks he's seen her around at various places.]
no subject
[Wanda takes his hand in a quick hand shake before sitting in the chair across from him. He strikes her as a very serious guy despite the scruffy beard and long hair.]
You said you were looking for people to help. Before I was here I worked with an anti-terrorist organization called the Avengers. [She never assumes that people have heard of it before. The multiverse was a strange place.]
no subject
[Fucking in a position where he has to vet superheroes. But that's exactly the point of this...]
What roles have you played in their cases? Negotiator? CSI? SWAT or the powered alternative to that?
no subject
Powered alternative to SWAT. I can move things with my mind, among other things. The last mission we were after a group who wanted to steal a deadly virus and sell it to the highest bidder. It would have killed a lot of people, so we stopped it. [Not without casualties...]
I prefer to let others negotiate but I do have an advantage. I can... sense or hear peoples thoughts.
[It might be obvious from her hesitation that she doesn't like doing that.]
no subject
[Unfortunately, with the pushback against the Heart. But it's also a huge benefit, he thinks, considering the return of that disease feels like a real threat. He's really worried about why they have fucking replacements.]
You can read thoughts?
[He's been coming across that a lot lately.]
To what degree? Control minds? Read emotions? Know exactly what they're thinking?
no subject
[She doesn't elaborate because that's nearly admitting that she's done it before.]
If you need information from someone. I can find it for you. But I'd appreciate being a last resort.
It isn't comfortable being exposed to another's thoughts.
no subject
So I need to know if you can compartmentalize before you commit to anything. If you can take it, lock it up, and put it aside while you do what you need to do?
[He emphasizes this, because whatever message they're trying to send, Hank doesn't want it to matter. He's guessing scaring law enforcement away, especially law enforcement that's usually not had to deal with violence of this level in a long time, is part of it.]
no subject
[Wanda's tongue presses briefly against the side of her cheek.]
I can compartmentalize. [She doesn't like doing it and it's obvious but she has the strength too. She's experienced more horrors than most already in her life. This will just be more of the same to her.] Even if I don't like it.
But you'll have to take my word for it.
no subject
[He points to the animal next to him.]
This is a Lying Cat. If you'd lied to me, it would have said so. This wasn't something I was willing to take anyone's word on when I couldn't see a resume and wasn't acquainted with a representative.
So I'll believe you for now. But if that changes, you need to tell me.
[He doesn't want to see people breaking down. There's the very obvious reason that he doesn't want someone else hurt in this line of work. It can be a lot. But there's also the fact that if one of the people he puts on the case can't handle it, then they'll start touting the emotionless, ruthless iterations as the better option.]
no subject
She hadn't known but that would have changed her response. She didn't see the point in lying.]
I will. I won't endanger you or those who have been brought here because of my pride. [Her expression saddens as her voice softens.] I've already seen how many lives that can cost.
[And it is the truth.]
no subject
[That sounds more like a genuine question than some part of an entry exam. The expression on her face seems to make it worth it to ask. It's worth it to know that sort of thing, when something weighs on people and makes it hard on them.]
[He knows how it was for him, to be left alone with thoughts. Survivor's guilt is a hell of a thing.]
no subject
[She began the story in a steady voice. It isn't happy memory but it's part of her past and it isn't changing.]
My brother and I let ourselves be the subject of experiments to protect our homes. We fought against the Avengers back then, before we knew them. [Wanda rolls her shoulders in a shrug.] One of the party. I saw his fears and I watched what his fears and pride did.
He created a monster. One that my brother and I helped before realizing what he was truly trying to do. All to save the world.
This monster couldn't tell the difference between saving the world and ending it. Where do you think he got that from?
[It'd been fear and pride. Tony's biggest flaws.]
no subject
[He clears his throat.]
You can't always count on someone else's mistakes to teach you a lesson. You'll never know all their context or what was going through their head. I've seen a lotta people swear they'd never fuckin' turn out like their parents, then it happened anyway. Or people fail investigations over and over, doctors make bad diagnosis because they're trying too hard to not make the same mistake. Cops shooting innocent people a week after swearing they'd never be that kind of officer, not like fuckin' so-and-so.
[He taps his head.]
Remember your experiences most of all. Watch what your own head does, or it could cause you to make some real damn regretable mistakes.
no subject
I know but in this case, I know what was going on in his head. I saw it. [She'd felt his fear and knew what that outcome would be before it'd happened.] But you're right. We only know what we are really capable of during moments like that. When it's hard.
That's why I can tell you, I've experienced those moments and I've always done everything I can to save those who need me.
no subject
Well, the heads of the people in this case are also gonna be messed up. This is... It feels dispassionate. But when you come across it, you'll have to take it in, box it up, unpack it later.
[He could do that with strangers. Not with his own son. He knows the more personal it is, the more it chafes.]
no subject
I know. I'll be fine and if I am not I'll let you know and take the time I need to get my head out of my ass. [It happens on occasion and she doesn't have Clint anymore to help her.]
Thank you for this chance to help.
