Old Drifter's got a good long bedtime story about how the alien technological being came to visit Earth bringing wonders and a new Eden for man to enjoy, only to be followed by hell. Short version of that story is a lot of other people wanted that damn thing even if it chose us. To fight back and defend itself? It grabbed a bunch of dead humans, gave them 'ghosts' that would never let them die, and filled them full of special powers.
Some of the aliens are pretty creeped out by the undead superpeople it up and made. Honestly? I don't blame them. I'm pretty creeped out by them, too.
