Okay, I'm getting a bit tired of coming into the kitchens in the dorms and running into the scent of charred food. So I'm doing something. I'm offering cooking lessons for people still in the dorms. Or I will if there is suitable interest.

I can definitely get suggestions for what people want to learn to cook, so I will also take requests for recipes.

I mean, maybe not. But clearly someone wants to cook who isn't that great at it, and I'm juuuust saying that maybe offering classes by leading with an insult is not the best PR move.

Well, for starters, I'd advise not beginning with insulting your prospective students. I mean, Gordon Ramsay can get away with it because everyone knows who he is and what his credentials are. You need a reputation if you're gonna jump right into calling people idiot sandwiches.

Not literally, no, but the general message is kind of the same. You get what I'm trying to say, right? Next time try to offer without insulting or putting down the people you're trying to target. Maybe explain what makes you someone they should trust to teach them. Put on a demonstration. Make a video, add some music, offer free samples. People love free food. They don't love being told they suck.

I'll try. But it seems like I won't have people looking to learn anyway.

Why do you say that? Because people aren't jumping to admit that they burned the food and irritated you? Would you jump to ask for lessons if the positions were reversed?

There are people other than those who burn things. And yes. I would.

[But David had always been big on learning things. Learning to be self-reliant. And he preferred people being upfront and honest.]

I can. I also can't see why it should fully be an issue to ask for help. That sort of thinking gets things messed up. Trust me, I've seen it.
